 Genre-fusing music

By DJ Alborz

Male Swedish Singers seem to be a pretty big thing nowdays, with Basshunter who had 2 UK number ones entering in the Celebrity Big Brother house and now Erik Hassle entering the music scene with his debut album “Pieces”.

But Erik Hassle is nothing like Basshunter, where one produces cheesy euro-pop the other makes top class euphoric pop that grabs your attention quicker than chocolate cake!

One of the main tracks that stand out from the album, “Hurtful”, will be released on the 7th of February and I do highly recommend everyone gets it. The track has already been a massive number 1 success in his native Sweden and it’s easy to see why. The rocky drums over the synths and the larger than life chorus provides a perfect blend of Indie pop that the market has been waiting for. The song itself is an emotional apology to a former lover about cheating, which seems to be a rather popular topic for song writers, but Erik delivers it in his own unique style.

And speaking of his style, Hassle is not only into music but also fashion and he’s done modeling on fashion sites and magazines and even appeared on the catwalk for designer Martyn Bal.

But back to the music and some of the other prominent tracks on his album are “Don’t Bring Flowers” which includes an indie-like guitar backing yet somehow it manages to be a pop song and “The Thanks I Get” which is a ballad you’d expect from Take That.

With his Marge Simpson-esque hairdo, Erik Hassle has the potential to take Europe by storm and I honestly hope that he does because his genre-fusioning music is really something that we don’t have much of in the UK and I presume we’ll be talking a lot more about Erik Hassle over the coming months as he releases more songs.
