Looking at it Lyrically
1. Are you lonesome tonight?
Dial up the volume and sit back with The King Blues new album ‘Save the World, Get the Girl’
2. What’s going on?
The King Blues are a Punk/Reggae band from London whose unlimited energy and liveliness means they stick out miles from the crowd. They’ve been a staple of the London punk/squatting scheme since the release of their first album ‘Under the Fog’, an anthem to the underground scene.
3. Could this be magic?
The King Blues blend many musical influences, from The Clash to Billy Bragg, with soulful ska rhythms and lively folk instrumentals. This eclectic fusion brings a unique new dimension to their thumping songs, from the raw rock sound of The Streets Are Ours to the quixotic romance of For You Darling.
4. Who wants to be a millionaire?
Not these guys. From the politically charged Save the World, Get the Girl to the dark satire of Underneath This Lamppost Light, the bands own ideas about society are ever present in this album. Covering a range of issues from the Iraq war to Arnold Swarchenegger, the undercutting messages behind The King Blues songs clearly show their politics: ‘Going to war, to prevent war was the stupidest thing I ever heard’ However, the album is not without it’s romance. Even the most amorous songs are tinged with the bands inimitable brand of subtle but definite humour, a clever addition which adds to an already magnificent playlist.
5. Ever fallen in love (with someone you shouldn’t have fallen in love with)?
Hear The King Blues once and fall in love with their brilliant and innovative style. An eclectic mixture of musical styles, with a dash of coarse and apt vocals and a liberal sprinkling of politics, this is music as it should be. From tough backgrounds to great music, The King Blues are one group of underdogs who will certainly rise to the top.
